Beauty's Curse

Beauty, entered the room

pushing her, out of the way

She, tried in vain to catch up

But beauty was swept up into the air

leaving her, as an afterthought

She cursed her face and body

for taking all the oxygen

What about me

You don’t even see me

So she, began a subtle sabotage

searching out the most hideous

skirts, dresses, glasses, hats, pants and shirts

But, beauty persisted

The more she, tried the sabotage

the more they, marveled

The more they, remarked on her bold choices

Her quirky manner

and her blazing beauty only magnified

She thought perhaps its best to hide

So, she hid

She withdrew from all eyes

She cried

She cried

She cried

This was not, what she wanted

This was not, who she was

So, she tried a disguise

And it worked

But it didn’t

She, couldn’t be who she was

because

she, kept trying to control how everyone saw her

And it got in the way of how she, saw herself

So she, took off the disguises

and she, looked in the mirror

And do you know who she saw?

She saw herself

               and she smiled
